Dear mums,

I see you.

Stressed that you can’t homeschool your child to the level they would be getting at school.

I see you. Trying to hold your work life together whilst having kids at home all day.

I see you. Two days in and already falling apart.

I see you. Two days in and already falling apart.

Please remember you are enough.

Right now, nothing is perfect. Nothing is what it is meant to be. And you are enough.

Remember that this is NOT homeschooling, this is an unprecedented emergency.

This is us winging it.

You have not chosen to homeschool. You have not researched and planned and made an informed decision to homeschool. You have been thrown in the deep end and whatever you manage to do for your child is enough.

We are flying by the seat of our pants.

It is not possible for you to completely take over your child’s schooling…and that is ok.

You are doing your best.
The school’s have not extensively planned a handover to us. They are winging it (and that’s ok too…please appreciate their efforts). So don’t be hard on yourself if it doesn’t go according to plan…because there isn’t actually a plan.

You are concerned about keeping your child active all day. You don’t have to be.

Your kids don’t have to be studying all day.
So how do you survive…

  • Plan to survive….to love and be loved.
  • Provide a safe space for your child
  • Read together, and read often
  • Play LEGO if they’re little or Monopoly if they’re older
  • Find joy everyday…even when it feels bleak (and it does)
  • Go for a walk (at a social distance), get fresh air!
  • Bake a cake
  • Get out a jigsaw puzzle
  • Put a family tree together
  • Take time for yourself, self care is looking after your family
  • Find a rhythm, a routine that works for your family in our new normal

And remember you gave birth to this human. You know them. You know their strengths and their weaknesses. You are their safe place. Just keep them safe.

Give yourself a break. You are enough

And wash your hands.
